History

A Historic Engineering Marvel

Opened in 1896, the Snowdon Mountain Railway is the only rack-and-pinion railway in the UK. Using the Abt system, it conquers steep gradients of up to 1 in 5.5, making it a true Victorian engineering masterpiece. Today, it continues to combine heritage charm with modern comfort, carrying thousands of visitors to the summit of Wales’ highest peak.
